OFFScreen began in the fall of 1998 as an independent and foreign film exhibitor at the University of Virginia, screening films throughout the school year that would not otherwise be seen in Charlottesville and training students in programming, projection, print traffic, publicity, and office administration.

OFFScreen is an official Contracted Independent Organization (CIO) of the University of Virginia's Student Council, is funded in part by the University's Student Activities Fund, and is entirely student run. It goes without saying that U.Va. is in no way responsible for the content of our programs or the business operations of our organization. If you are a U.Va. student and are interested in volunteering for OFFScreen in whatever capacity, contact us. No experience or application is necessary.
Theater
All programs run in Newcomb Hall Theater unless otherwise noted. The theater is located in the basement of Newcomb Hall on the grounds of the University of Virginia and is handicap accessible.

If your cellphone rings during one of our screenings, you will be asked to leave.
Admission
TICKETS are $3 at the door unless otherwise noted. Double Features are $5.
Parking at the Emmet Street Garage will be validated at the box office for members only.

Individual tickets must be purchased at the box office and are not available in advance unless otherwise noted.

SEASON MEMBERSHIPS are available for $26 for new members and $20 for returning members. Membership includes free and guranteed admission to all programs. We'll let you know if a particular program is likely to sell out; in which case you will be asked to claim your seat no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.

Memberships are available at any time and can be purchased by posting a check (payable to OFFScreen) to the address listed below or in person at the box office. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start time if you intend to buy a membership.

The box office opens forty-five minutes before the scheduled start time.

From Washington, D.C. and Points North
  1. Take 66 W to 29 S. Continue on 29 S for approx. 1.75 hours.
  2. Once you're in Charlottesville, 29 S becomes EMMET ST.
  3. The road narrows to just two lanes. At the intersection of UNIVERSITY AVE (to the left), IVY RD (to the right) and EMMET ST, go straight through the light.
  4. After the tennis courts on your left there will be a gymnasium flush against the road . Make a left into the CENTRAL GROUNDS PARKING GARAGE just after the gymnasium.
  5. The theater is located across the courtyard at the top of the garage stairs in the basement of NEWCOMB HALL. We will validate your parking at the box office.
From Lynchburg and Points South
  1. Take 29 N to the 29 N BUSINESS exit.
  2. Turn right onto 29 N BUSINESS At the second light, 29 N BUSINESS becomes JEFFERSON PARK AVENUE(JPA).
  3. Continue straight to the next light, the interesection of EMMET ST and JPA.
  4. Turn left onto EMMET ST . Bank right with the road and make the first right into the CENTRAL GROUNDS PARKING GARAGE just after the second overpass.
  5. The theater is located across the courtyard at the top of the garage stairs in the basement of NEWCOMB HALL. We will validate your parking at the box office.
From Richmond and Points East
  1. Take 64 W to EXIT 118B (Charlottesville.Culpeper).
  2. Merge onto MONACAN TRAIL RD.
  3. Almost immediately, exit toward 29 N BUSINESS.
  4. Turn right onto 29 N BUSINESS.
  5. At the second light, 29 N BUSINESS becomes JEFFERSON PARK AVENUE (JPA).
